Parasyte: The Grey (Korean: 기생수: 더 그레이) is a 2024 South Korean science fiction horror television series. Yeon Sang-ho directed and co-wrote the show. It serves as a live-action spin-off of the manga series Parasyte, created by Japanese artist Hitoshi Iwaaki. The story follows a confrontation with mysterious parasitic creatures that fall from space, take over human hosts, and feel an instinct to kill. The main cast includes Jeon So-nee, Koo Kyo-hwan, and Lee Jung-hyun. Netflix released all six episodes on April 5, 2024, and the series earned generally positive reviews.
The plot begins when parasitic organisms descend from outer space and start using humans as hosts. They kill their victims and can shapeshift their heads into any form. A police squad called "The Grey," led by Choi Jun-kyung, works to protect society from these attacks and keep all incidents out of the news and social media. Jun-kyung’s husband was one of the first parasites; she keeps him captive under a mask as a hunting dog, using his ability to sense other parasites.
Jeong Su-in works as a cashier at a supermarket, living an ordinary life. After a drunk customer stabs her, she wakes up in the hospital to find her attacker dead. Officer Kim Chul-min, who helped Su-in as a child when she reported her abusive father, checks on her. During the attack, a parasite tried to take over Su-in’s brain, but because her body was busy healing from the stabbing, the parasite could not gain full control. It now lives in her subconscious, able to take over only one side of her head and awaken to protect her. Seol Kang-woo, a small-time thug whose older sister is a parasite and whose younger sister is missing, witnesses two parasites cornering Su-in. He names the parasite inside her Heidi, after Jekyll and Hyde.
Parasites take Su-in to a secluded church led by a pastor parasite. Kang-woo finds his younger sister’s body there and, devastated, flees with Su-in as parasites chase them. Chul-min discovers a key chain he gave Su-in at the church and meets her to question her, but Jun-kyung attacks him. Su-in passes out, and Chul-min’s partner, Kang Won-seok, kills Jun-kyung’s hunting dog, which Kang-woo sees. Team Grey captures Su-in despite negative test results.
